FAQ

At Accredited Health Coaching Australia we have developed health coach training courses, incorporating evidence based health behaviour change interventions and techniques that promote self-efficacy, self-determination and self-responsibility.  Because there is nothing better than supporting your client on their change journey.

I’M ALREADY A HEALTH PROFESSIONAL OR I’VE STUDIED NUTRITION /FITNESS ALREADY, DO I REALLY NEED TO STUDY COACHING?

In order to coach clients you need to have studied coaching. It is not enough to be a health professional, a fitness trainer or interested in health. Coaching is a specific set of skills and competencies based on evidence based models of behaviour change.

DO I NEED TO STUDY NUTRITION, FITNESS OR HEALTH FIRST?

No, you don’t need to be a nutrition or an exercise specialist in order to be a health coach. You do not need to be an expert in health to be a health coach, you do however need to know the skills and psychology of behaviour change.

WHY ARE YOUR COURSES SO LONG? CAN’T I LEARN HEALTH COACHING IN A WEEKEND?

You can learn skills in short health coaching courses, however practicing the skills is what makes you a great health coach. Learning the skills, having a chance to practice them, get feedback and learn how to improve is essential if you want to feel confident and be effective as a health coach.

WHAT DO I LOOK FOR IN A HEALTH COACHING COURSE?

Look for courses that include the key criteria and coaching core competencies set out by the Health Coaches Australian New Zealand Association (HCANZA), use national standards, evidence based techniques and have experienced health professionals as trainers.  Accredited Health Coaching Australia courses are certified to the highest standards for Australian coaching training.
